"Fortune cookies" in a box

fortune teller
Feeling curious or wanting to know about your future? Well, you can get some rough picture of it by drawing a 20 cents out from your pocket and start shaking a handful of sticks with different numbering printed at the edge of each stick. A stick might drop up from the container while you're shaking it carefully. You should then check the number jotted on the stick and approach to this box to collect the paper of your number. You may have some hints by reading the "fortune cookies". Mostly, you may find this in a Chinese temple. Do you think it's too superstitious? I might say that sometimes it would be a good way of guiding you out when you're lost.

Note: Picture taken in a Chinese temple at Kuala Kubu Bharu.

p/s: I'm dead NOT. lol.

Signs of aging

chinese temple
That's a Chinese word at the top of the picture. And "sick" is what the word means. I think that one gets more sick as he/ she's getting older, don't you think?

I'm having a BAD gastric now. I shall name it the Sign of Aging.

You can tell that it's a part of a temple. I'll tell you what temple it is by showing more photos soon. ;)

Theme Day: The Color Blue

tioman island

It's time for everyone to participate in the monthly theme day again! This photo was taken during my trip to Tioman Island, a small island, 39 km long and 12 km wide, located off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. Whilst our small speed boat was stopping by few jetty before reaching our final destination, I saw this guy sleeping on his small blue boat (I wasn't that sure if it's his boat).

Must be a nice short nap during a hot weather, I guess. ;)

There are 121 blogs in total participating in the November Theme Day. Do click on them and enjoy the "blue"! ;)

Tioman Island

tioman island

Having disappeared from DP community for more than one month, I want to apologize to everyone, sorry for not updating my blog on a regular basis or not leaving any commentary. I don't want to give any excuse on that but my life had been in a mess in the past month. It's a very long story to tell so I might just save up your time for reading up some boring problems that I've had, which will probably make me started to feel dejected.

So back to the photo. That's a photo I took during my visit to Tioman Island, which located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang, last 2 weeks.

I was having a walk alone along the beach right in front of Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf and Spa Resort, while pondering over numerous incidents that had happened not long ago.

Anyway, I felt so much better after looking at the beautiful sunset. My bad photographing skills couldn't capture the sunset in time.

By the way, Happy Halloween, everyone!! =)

Beca

pulau pinang beca
A closer shot of the beca's wheel. Beca is a transportation back in old days. It is somewhat similar with bicycle but just that it has added with a 2-person seats in front of the bicycle. Now, beca is widely used especially at tourist spots in Melaka and Penang.

Hop in and let's enjoy the breeze!

Have you tried any kind of transportation similar with this before? I know you would probably tell me that it's bicycle :p

Long overdue!

malaysia international fireworks competition

Sorry guys, I know this is a long overdue post!! The competition had ended 3 weeks ago and I have yet to edit the photos. Anyway, some of you might not know who's the winner yet. It's the Australian team, represented by Howards and Sons Pyrotechnics Pvt Ltd, they have won the inaugural Malaysia International Fireworks Competition (MIFC), beating three other teams - Malaysia, Japan and Italy. The theme of their fireworks display was "Aurora Australia".

The photo I posted previously was displayed by the Australia team. Whereas today I'm going to show you guys how the Japan team displayed their fireworks. Sad to say, there were times when I felt kind of boring in the earlier part of the show. But overall it was alright.

And the dazzling ending.

p/s: This is the last post about fireworks so you guys won't be bored by any photos from MIFC anymore. :P

Do you dare to drip?

baskin robbins
That's the tagline of Baskin Robbins, I guess? It's printed on the tissue. The ice cream definitely was tempting and I enjoyed eating it very much.

I'm sure I've dripped it. :)

So do you like to eat ice cream? My favorite flavors are chocolate or anything cheesecake-contained ice cream.

Palace of Justice.

putrajaya palace of justice
The Palace of Justice. It consists of five-storey building for judicial department and two-storey building which will house the courts, situated at Putrajaya. I noticed the design of the whole building looks alike with the Putrajaya Mosque which I posted the other day. What do you think?

Sorry for not updating anything here since the past few days. Been staying up few late nights; drinking hot steamy coffee to keep me wide awake through out the long haul night, to finish up my assignments and case studies. Well, I've been pretty lazy lately. ; ))

Twin Towers

KLCC twin towers
I took this shot few months ago - the Petronas Twin Towers which were once the world tallest building from 1998-2004. It would be more beautiful if all the lights had been turned on. I was wondering why the light on the lower part of the building hadn't been switched on. I think it's a good thing because it will prevent the wastage of energy which will reduce the emission of carbon dioxide.

What do you normally do in your daily life in order to save the environment from becoming more and more polluted?

The neglected place

pulau pinang
What do you think when you first saw this picture?

"Geez.. What an old tailoring shop.. Who wanna come here and have their clothes done?"

Yeah. You might be right. As the time goes by, many things will be slowly disappearing as they are not that important to be paid attention on. Just like this little tailoring shop.

Perhaps we should pay more attention and see things differently. Perhaps we should use more of our time to see the world; may be in the end of the day, you will get something which is unexpected than you think it might be.

I hope I will be an good observant. Do you?

That sky...

malaysia blue sky
Today it's a sunny day. No raining. It's pretty hot. And I looked up into the sky. How's the weather in your city? I heard there's been very hot in most of your city. Over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, right?

ps: Am going to study now. Will be back for commenting and visiting your blog after this. :)

Japanese buffet, anyone??

japanese buffet shogun

This is Shogun, a japanase buffet restaurant in One Utama Shopping Centre. I've been there for dinner to celebrate my friend's birthday. The ambience of Shogun is pretty nice and the food is certainly splendid. The foods have been divided into several section; the sushi bar, the teppanyaki section, the fried foods section, the oh-so-yummy soup section, the drinks section and the desserts section. Pretty many isn't it? Well, it costs RM 52++ per person, which I think it's quite reasonable. Too bad I only had an oyster with cheesy topping [my favorite!!] as only one oyster will be given to each customer. Oh that's alright because there are plenty of grilled seafood to be choosing from! Forget about the calories! Let's enjoy the food!

So what do you like to eat specifically when you're having a buffet?

Life oh life...

pulau penang
As I was walking down the street in the downtown area of Penang, somewhere near the Kimberley Street if I'm not mistaken, I saw this uncle was pushing his 3 wheels bicycle which filled with loads of vegetables on it. I think he was going to somewhere nearby to sell off the vege, or perhaps he was on his way back home? I have no idea. All I can see was the blood-like stains on his pants. Have you noticed that? Was it a real blood stains, I wondered.

Life hasn't been easy. There's a saying that goes, "The rich become richer, the poor become poorer." Even the best developed country has people who're struggling on their living everyday. Don't you think so?

I think the photo somewhat representing what I am saying about. Notice the "Rolex"? Well, link it with the vege-selling man and you will get the picture.

Sleeping Buddha

sleeping buddha
Sorry guys, been missing for a few days. I was technically in the state of melancholy for the past 2 days. I wish everything will be turned out fine and the issue will be settled as soon as possible so that I will be feeling less troublesome by the problem that I'm facing now. Oh well.

And so I'm looking at the photograph of Sleeping Buddha which was taken during my trip to Penang, to seek the peacefulness within myself. Life has been up and down. A lot of time we seek the "truth" and try to convince ourself that we are not alone from the religious perspective. It might not be a 100% solution to your problem, but at least it will comfort your soul more than a little.

Sculpture

sleeping buddha
I just got back from Penang yesterday and now I decided to show you guys some of the photos I took in Penang. Sorry to post it up but I really want to show some of the scene in Penang. Hope you guys wouldn't mind. :) This is a sculpture which situated right beside a sculpture of Buddha. It looks quite scary, don't you think? I believe its motive of being such scary is to chase away the evils. This photo was taken in The Sleeping Buddha Temple (Wat Chayamangkalaram) in Penang. Tomorrow I'll show you the sleeping Buddha.

Have you seen this kind of sculpture? Or do you have any kind of similar sculpture in your city?

This is the month.

malaysia flag
It's August now. This is the month when we're going to celebrate our 50 years of nationhood and 31st of August is approaching really soon.

The picture was taken at the field placing with the national flag which surrounded by 13 other flags of states in Malaysia and a flag of Federal Territory, right in front of Putrajaya Mosque. And I just shot a part of it which you can see how our national flag looks like.

p/s: Today, I will be going to Penang for a couple of days. So I might not be able to update on a daily basis. :( But I will get back to you guys soon and your comments as well! =)

Have a nice week ahead!

Railway station

malaysia railway station
This is the Kajang Railway Station which is situated at Jalan Bukit, near the main town of Kajang. After some renovation and touching-up had been done, we have more chairs to sit now, and a bigger place to hide from rain. As you can see from the picture, the blue-yellow train is called KTM. Its efficiency is slower compared with LRT, Starline and Monorail. If I happened to miss the train, I have to wait another 15 min or even more than that for the next train. It's not cool at all if you're in the rush.

I want a sip of that now.

kilkenny
Kilkenny. It's an Irish beer. Has anyone tried it before? I think it's nice! The texture is quite smooth, and not that gassy. It was taken in an Irish bar in KL.

Do you guys drink beer? Or do you prefer wine more? Or anything alcoholic?

August Theme Day: Typical Breakfast

breakfast
This is my typical breakfast of the day - a glass of extra hot milo + milk, a slice or two of raisin oatmeal toast, and biscuits. It's nothing special because I don't have excess time on making a proper breakfast as I always in the rush to class. I wished I had hot dogs, boiled eggs, and fresh juices during my breakfast but too bad my hostel doesn't has fridge to store the food. (Juices and hot dogs need to be stored in refrigerator.) Well, would anyone like to offer me one of those? :p

p/s: Oh, of course I didn't managed to finish off the biscuits all by myself!! =)

selling flower

malaysia flowers
It's a hot day and I could hardly open my eyes. The lady was standing in front of the stalls and thinking about which flower she should buy. This is a stall beside of the Kajang Big Market. Most people are buying the flowers for praying purposes. Notice it's chrysanthemum- most of the Buddhist will use it during praying ceremony. And I'm really sorry about the overexposed part. Hope you guys wouldn't mind.

Wet market

Kajang (malaysia) wet market
I haven't been updating since last week because I've been busy studying for my mid-term test. Well, I think it's all good now. :)

So this morning, I went to Pasar Besar Kajang which loosely translated as Kajang Big Market. It's one of the wet markets situated in Kajang. Well, it's wet market so obviously the floor is REALLY wet. You have to be really careful when you're walking. And it's pretty smelly, too - with the smell of fish and chicken and vegetable, all blending together.

This is the first stall that I'd visited. I wanted to buy some ingredients for cooking like mushrooms, onions, garlics and etc. I DO cook - once in a while when my roommies is not around. Because she cooks better. :p

So, do you cook?

Work for living

ice cream man
I was stopping in front of traffic lights and while waiting for the green light, I was playing and snapping pictures by using my oh-so-small compact digital camera. This is one of the pictures I've taken during the waiting. The guy who's riding his motorcycle is an ice-cream selling man. It was a rainy day, but still the guy had to drive around to sell off his ice-cream. It's for the sake of his living. I salute him.

Is it dying?

trees
This is a branching tree which is near my house. I wonder if it's dying now or getting a new life because some small hardly-noticed leaves have been seen on the tips of the branches.

To me, I guess it has come to the death. But another chapter of life will surely begin. A new life will soon to be born.

Seri Saujana Bridge

putrajaya seri saujana bridge
Seri Saujana Bridge is one of the many bridges in Putrajaya. Yesterday I was driving around and slacking around with couple of my friends around Putrajaya and Cyberjaya area. It was 12 midnight, if I'm not mistaken.

I have memory of goldfish and so I had forgotten to bring my camera out! Oh well, I think it's because the size of the camera is too small for me to notice it, or not? Anyway, thanks Lit Shiuan for lending me his Olympus digital cam. I managed to shot some funny poses of them standing high on the bridge, too. You can view all of them here.

I shall get rid of my goldfish's memory and remember of bringing the gear along with me next time.

Dare to dive in?

Chili;s Grill and Bar Restaurant

I will. I will definitely dive into it IF I was a piece of chili - because I was too HOT.

Here's a picture taken in the Chili's Grill and Bar Restaurant while I was having a glass of mango juice.

I bet the Chili Man in the picture must be really enjoying to dive himself in a pool which fulled with cold Margarita.

How to stay awake

old town kopitiam
Sorry for disappearing from the DP community for ages. I was not in vacation but just have been very busy lately which eventually has caused the lack of photo.

Anyway, here I am again, showing you a photo of a local franchise in Malaysia called the Old Town Kopitiam. It's a franchise which sells food like coffee [a bit different from Starbucks'], freshly-baked toast, fresh-boiled egg, noodles and etc. It's famous for its White Coffee. You should try it out in Malaysia. The price is very reasonable, too. The average price of a cup of coffee just cost you RM 2.50 - way cheaper than that of Starbucks which cost around RM10 for a "tall" latte.

I would agree with the ads - one cup is never enough. :p

Thirsty? I bet you were.

I was actually planning to post this picture during the July's Theme Day but somehow, I accidentally deleted the WHOLE bunch of photos and had failed to recover the file. So I ended up with the "red boxer thingy" after much consideration and frustration that was going through inside of me.

Few days ago, I only realized that I've saved the WHOLE bunch of photos in somewhere of my laptop. Duh.

Anyway, I'm glad they are still here. :)

The guy in the photo is my buddy, Billy. Oh and I always love seeing the photos taken by him. Anyhow, I think he must be feeling REALLY thirsty until he ended up with drinking the water from the hose for the fire rescuer purposes?

Oh, for you information: He failed to drink any water in the end. The hose was empty. *Hahaha*

Stepping up to the blue sky

Here I took another shot of the Chinese Temple in a moving car. It is called as "Shi Na Tok" in Chinese and situated at Broga, to be exact. and I've posted the closer shot of it in my previous post.

Deforestation

Yesterday afternoon, I went to Broga (a small town which situated from Kajang for about 30 minutes distance) with my sister and her friend for eating Chinese style of Ikan Bakar. It's delicious!

While on our way to the shop, I saw many a lot of deforestation were going on there, especially at the roadside. I think they want to enlarge the road as the road is small and very bumpy.

Thousands of tree have been cutting down since then. It's sad to see the balded hill with no tree on it. The weather has been really hot lately. May be due to the excessive amount of deforestation?

What should we do to stop the deforestation? The Mother Nature is calling for help now.

This month DP theme day is "Red".

Red boxer, kick-boxing. Tough muscle.

*Gasp*

How hot is that?

It's certainly "It's a fashion knock-out".

Hello?!! Did you hear me?

Please do not imitate the action above when you're riding on your moving motorcycle. [Note that I said "moving"]

This is too dangerous and you might be losing arms and legs in the end. Please stop by somewhere safely, and make sure that the surrounding is alright for answering phone calls.

Just like the Punjabi guy in the picture.

You can make a difference.

So have you ever tried answering phone calls or replying message while driving at the same time?

Pray to the best

The India man was praying and circulating around the statue at the Hindu Temple, Kajang.

I wonder what he's thinking and praying about?

Anyway, when was the last time you prayed to god? The last time I prayed to god was my previous final exam. I was hoping that my accounting subject would pass. And it did. =))

Hindu Temple

This is the Hindu Temple in Kajang. As you can see from the photo, it's an old building and the color of it has been washed out. More renovation need to be done in order to make it looks all new again.

Currently there are some construction going on at the outside of the temple, perhaps a better drainage system? I hoped the man in the photo didn't get scolded by the lady.

Toll

This is a typical look of a toll in Malaysia. In Malaysia, we have highways everywhere and mostly we need to pay money at the tolls for using the highways. It's not cheap if we used the highway on a daily basis. But we hardly avoid ourself from using highways because usually there's the only route we need to use in order to reach our destination.

So do you need to pay money for using the highways /roads back in your country? Does it costs really expensive? Or is it free-of-charge?

An effective advertisement, I suppose.

I was sitting in the car while we crossed the flyover at the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong. Lebuhraya means "highway" in English.

While crossing the flyover, I saw 2 huge advertisement board situated right at the middle of the hanging steels. This one obviously is Canon.

"Canon. Delighting you always." [this is the motto of Canon in Malaysia.]

So, what motto did Canon used in your city? I wonder if it's the same.

Missing words

It's written "Bas Mi" as you can see from the photo. It sounds weird because after translated to English, it means "Noodles Bus". Well, it's not a bus which sells noodles. It's a bus - for carrying passengers, of course.

It should be written as "Bas Mini" instead of "Bas Mi".

What a big mistake which we hardly noticed.

Happy birthday

Happy birthday, Sharon. Though this post is a bit late but still, I've got to wish you here. Happy 21st birthday. [oops.. Did I just said that?]

The cake was made by Hui Wen, the expert of making pastry and cakes. It's a peach cake as you can see. It's tasty. The whipped cream was just nice and the peach was heavenly.

So, what cake would you like to have on your birthday?

What a weird combination

I had this for my lunch. A home-cooked porridge. I was shocked when I first scooped it up. There were groundnuts, potatoes, hot dogs, carrots, chicken breasts meat inside the porridge - altogether.

What a weird combination, don't you agree?

I suppose I had a concoction for my lunch.

And thank god, I'm still alive.

What did you had for your lunch? I bet at least it sounds much better than this, er, "well-mixed porridge"?

MIA

I was missing in action for the whole week and I am truly sorry for this. I haven't been posting anything here for quite some time as I was having holidays in Johor Bahru (another state situated at the southern part of peninsular Malaysia) and went to Singapore on Monday, too. I couldn't come online and too bad that I couldn't thought of anyone who can help me out to upload photos when I was away. And I wanted to meet Singapore's DP but --- again, I couldn't online. :(

Anyway, I am back to home now and back to DP again. :)

p/s: You can have a look on my photos taken in JB and Singapore at my another blog. :)

p/s: time to sleep now and I will visit your blog and reply your comment soon after I woke up. See ya!

Sunset view from my hostel

This photo was taken in my hostel's room when I was studying hard for my final exam. I couldn't stay my eyes still to the books I was reading, so I looked into the sky instead. Until then, I only noticed the sun was slowly vanishing from the sky. I grabbed my camera and snapped the whole process. Here's one of them.

Big or not?

People who has gotten fishes will keep them in the pond to observe their freshness. This guy had caught 4 fishes. He pulled the fishes out from the pond before going back home. The fishes were big, I supposed. Or not? Well, I seldom following my mum to market and so that size is considered pretty big to me.
